A MAN charged with speeding twice at the same location in the same day had his wife attend the district court to represent him as he is now living and working in the UK.

Michael Tohill of Old Farmhouse, Oulart Lower, Gorey, was charged with speeding twice at Ballinatray Lower on September 9 of last year.

Ms Jane Tohill arrived before Judge Haughton and informed him that her husband lives and works in the UK. She said that she had sent a cheque to pay the fine, but didn’t have his licence at the time because he was in the UK.

Gardaí agreed to withdraw one of the charges and Ms Tohill said that her husband had given her permission to represent him and conceded that he had been travelling at 69km/h in a 50km/h zone. On this charge, Judge Haughton handed down a fine of €160.
