More than 18,000 on learner per­mits

THERE are cur­rently 18,225 learner per­mit driv­ers in Wex­ford.

On­line in­sur­ance bro­ker In­sure­my­cars.ie who sourced the fig­ures have called on the Gov­ern­ment to ad­dress the prob­lem say­ing that legacy is­sues mean that over 65,000 driv­ers na­tion­wide on their third learner per­mit.

The fig­ures re­veal that Ire­land’s youngest driv­ers on learner per­mits are in fact the best at ful­fill­ing their driv­ing re­spon­si­bil­i­ties, by tak­ing lessons and pass­ing their test in a timely man­ner.

How­ever some mo­torists over 30 are on their 5th, 6th, or even 10th learner driver per­mit and sta­tis­tics from the RSA show that there are 18,225 learner driv­ers in Wex­ford alone. Re­cent re­ports high­lighted the lengthy de­lays driv­ing test wait times across the coun­try with some peo­ple wait­ing up to 25 weeks to sit their test.
