Threat of jail for repeat motor insurance offender
A PROBATION report was ordered on repeat offender Craig Dixon of 37 McCurtain Street, Gorey as he appeared before the District Court on motor insurance charges.
It was accepted that Dixon had no insurance at Gorey in October of 2016 and again at Seamount in June of last year.
Judge Kevin Staunton made no secret of the fact that he was considering a prison sentence after learning that the defendant had previous convictions of a similar nature. However, solicitor Lana Doherty urged the court to consider that her client was now a father and that he had obtained work in construction, travelling daily to Dublin. Dixon had matured and turned a corner, Ms Doherty suggested. The case was put back to October to allow preparation of the probation report and the judge advised him to stay out of trouble in the meantime.
