Ferns NS gone to the dogs!
THERE was a fantastic atmosphere at a sun-soaked Enniscorthy Dog Track recently as Scoil Naomh Maodhog in Ferns hosted a special fundraising night at the dogs. There was a huge crowd on the night with organisers estimating that over 500 people passed through the turnstiles for an evening of family fun.
Apart from the obvious entertainment of the pounding paws on the track and perhaps a little flutter with the bookies, there was a wonderful array of family entertainment on the night too. Among the highlights were a duck race, a beat the goalie penalty shoot-out competition, a ‘tag the toddler’ competition where students and parents had to guess the teacher from their baby photo and ‘a step back in time’ competition whereby those in attendance had to guess the use of various historical artefacts.
As well as this the school also had the final of it’s hurling league on the grass in the centre of the track and they were delighted that Wexford star and Ferns native Paul Morris was on hand to pass out the medals at the end.
The fundraiser was held with the goal of raising money for tablets for school and it was extremely successful to this end raising somewhere in the region of €15,000 to €20,000. New Principal at the school, Mr John Halford, thanked all the local businesses who sponsored raffle prizes, parents, staff and everyone who got involved in a hugely successful night.
‘We’re over the moon with how things went,’ he said.
‘I can’t thank our sponsors and parents enough. We’re delighted with the money raised and it will be of great benefit to the education of the pupils going forward.’
