Uninsured driver had excessively worn tyres
A MOTOR insurance summons led to a court appearance in Gorey for Aaron Curran (26) from Monbay in Craanford.
The accused proved unable to prove that he was insured at Kilnahue on March 7 in 2015.
The BMW in which he was stopped on that occasion had two excessively worn tyres.
Curran told Judge Gerard Haughton he had borrowed the vehicle in question in order to assist his then partner’s mother to move.
In the witness box he stated that he had asked his ex-partner – a woman called Shauna Kelly – to transfer the insurance. However, the couple later went through a very bad break up. By the time the insurance summons arrived, he told the court, they were not talking to each other and he had not managed to trace her since.
As a result, there was no relevant insurance documentation available to the court.
Curran was fined €400 for having no insurance, plus €100 each for the two bald tyres and €100 for having no motor tax exhibited on the BMW – a total bill of €700.
