INTO THE GREAT WIDE OPEN!

- By SARA GAHAN

VOLUNTEERS from Seal Rescue Ireland in Courtown bid farewell to four of their rescue seals last week at the North Courtown beach.

A large crowd gathered on the beach to wave goodbye to Po Boy, Pepper, Pumpkin and Welsh Cake.

After the seals were safely released a number of volunteers from Seal Rescue Ireland dived into the icy waters to raise money for the Seal Rescue Ireland’s fish supplies.

The volunteers who took to the waters managed to raise enough money to cover the fish supplies for almost a month. Seal Rescue Ireland thanked all who supported the swimmers and those who attended the seal release.

Seal Rescue Ireland is a non-profit organisation that rescues, rehabilitates and releases seals, as well as taking care of other marine or terrestrial wildlife at its rescue centre at Courtown Adventure and Leisure Centre. The facility depends on public donations to stay operational.

Seal Rescue Ireland advised people not to approach seal pups if they see them on the beach. Instead they should call them on 087 1955393.
