I READ RHONDA BYRNE’S BESTSELLER The Secret many moons ago and while it didn’t change my life in the way it has for many others, it did help me have a clearer focus about where I wanted my future to go. While some of her comments about people attracting poverty and illness into their lives are unhelpful and frankly off-putting, much of what she says makes good sense. On page 26, we take a look at some of the celebrities and sports stars who claim it made them the success they are today, including Conor McGregor and Oprah Winfrey. No doubt they are people who have worked hard and put in the hours to achieve their dreams, but they claim that visualising victory made their achievements more attainable. And with championship belts, Oscars and bulging bank balances to their names, who are we to argue? In fact, I might just go back and read it again! WHEN AMANDA BROOKE LOST HER SON Nathan to childhood leukaemia, not only did she had to deal with her own grief, she also had to help her then 11-year-old daughter come to terms with the loss. She felt like she failed at the latter but it was only in later years that her daughter told her she’d done everything right and they helped each other move on and grasp their lives back. On page 30, she tells how the experience helped her feel brave enough to follow the dream she’d held since childhood.
