Gay charity activist resigns over funding

THE co-founder of the Gay and Lesbian Equality Network, Kieran Rose, has stepped down over funding irregularities within the charity.

The former Seanad candidate resigned from the board last night following an order for a review of the group’s financial activities by the Charities Regulator.

Mr Rose said he obtained approximately €11,500 from the charity to support his election campaign for the Seanad last year. He described the funding as ‘temporary supports’. The monies have since been repaid.

Mr Rose said any breach of regulations was inadvertent. ‘At no point was there any reason on my part not to disclose this,’ he said.

In a statement issued last night, Glen said it accepted Mr Rose’s resignation and acknowledged his ‘significant contribution’ over 30 years.
