SodaStream taps beer market
IT was the must-have gadget of the 1970s before its popularity fizzled out. But SodaStream is now hoping to make a comeback – by attracting lager drinkers into ‘home brewing’.
The company is looking to form a beer partnership that will push its carbonated water machines into homes again.
Chief executive Daniel Birnbaum yesterday revealed that the company is in discussions with potential partners that will provide liquid beer concentrates to pair with its machines in the next 12 months.
It comes after trials in countries such as Germany, Switzerland and Austria, saw Sodastream offer concentrates that created a 5% lager with its machines, which use gas cylinders to carbonate regular tap water. Users are provided with concentrated beer to put in their glass.
