Out a fan­tasy as Game of Thrones star

HE is a Grammy-award win­ning su­per­star who who has just sold out a string of gi­ant shows across Ire­land.

So fans of Ed Sheeran may be con­fused to see him act­ing on TV, wear­ing full bat­tle ar­mour. But the 26-year-old singer, who is worth more than £50mil­lion, made a cameo ap­pear­ance in the lat­est episode of Game of Thrones.

The star sings and speaks briefly, in the first episode of the sev­enth se­ries of the hit US fan­tasy show, which aired on Sky At­lantic last night. His char­ac­ter, who is not named, is seen singing around a camp­fire in the for­est.

When Arya Stark, played by 20-year-old Maisie Wil­liams, rides past on horse­back, she tells him: ‘It’s a pretty song, I’ve never heard it be­fore.’ Ed replies: ‘It’s a new one.’ One of the show’s cre­ators David Be­nioff said: ‘We tried to get Ed on to sur­prise Maisie [who is a big fan of his], and this year we fi­nally did it.’
