BOTH in Ire­land and the UK we get through mil­lions of cups of tea ev­ery day. To keep up with de­mand, the Typhoo fac­tory in Mersey­side churns out 14mil­lion tea bags ev­ery 24 hours. To be­gin a new, eye­open­ing se­ries ex­plor­ing the ori­gins of one of our favourite prod­ucts, Gregg Wal­lace and Cherry Healey (pic­tured right) visit the fac­tory and trace the jour­ney made by tea – some 6,500 kilo­me­tres from plan­ta­tion to cup – while Ruth Good­man re­veals some sur­pris­ing facts about its his­tory. But what we re­ally want to know is – why is Gregg wear­ing a hair­net?
