Irishwoman’s Ukip bid fails

Irish Daily Mail - - News -

THE defeat of a Dublin woman in an election for the leadership of Ukip has delighted the party’s former leader Nigel Farage.

Anne Marie Waters was defeated by Henry Bolton. She is a director of a controversial anti-Islamist group called Sharia Watch.

Mr Bolton’s victory avoided a potential split, as a number of Ukip MEPs had reportedly threatened to quit if Ms Waters won.

Mr Farage declared himself delighted and described the victor as ‘a man of real substance’.

Mr Bolton, a former British Army officer, told Ukip’s party conference in Torquay: ‘Brexit is our core task.’
