Boy in 200kph chase has 59 convictions
A 17-YEAR-OLD with 59 convictions stole an Audi A4 in Roscommon and reached 200kph on the road to Dublin while being chased by the gardaí, a court has heard.
Ryan Cahill, who is now 18, was arrested following a chase which began in Boyle, Co. Roscommon and came to a halt in Lucan, Dublin, on March 14 of this year.
He drove on the wrong side of the M4 motorway, smashed through a toll barrier and phoned gardaí, begging them to call off the pursuit.
Eventually, the gardaí used two stinger devices to stop him after a 150km chase back to Dublin.
Cahill, from Harelawn Grove, Clondalkin, Dublin, was before Dublin Children’s Court, and pleaded guilty to burglary, motor theft, dangerous driving and causing criminal damage to a Garda car in Lucan.
He will be sentenced in December. Cahill is currently serving a sentence, and asked the court not to extend his time in custody.
The judge, who noted that Cahill was no longer subject to the jurisdiction of the Children’s Court, praised the gardaí for stopping him.
He said the teen was a bully who did not show any remorse and could face a sentence of up to 18 months.
