WINKS WORRIED FOR WORLD CUP CHANCE
TOTTENHAM midfielder Harry Winks fears his ankle problem could rule him out of the World Cup. Winks’s game time at Spurs has been curtailed by a persistent ankle injury, which he first suffered at the end of last season. Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has been cautious with the 22-year-old and will continue to protect him because of his fitness concerns. Winks exploded on to the international scene last year, performing brilliantly in his England debut against Lithuania in October. But Winks faces an anxious wait to discover whether he is called up for England’s friendlies with Holland and Italy when Gareth Southgate names his squad tomorrow. Spurs are still waiting to find out the extent of Harry Kane’s ankle injury. The England striker was hurt in Sunday’s 4-1 win at Bournemouth and the swelling has delayed scans.
