Court clears 18 of gems heist
A BELGIAN court has acquitted 18 people of involvement in a €38million diamond heist at Brussels Airport.
The 2013 theft, in which gems were stolen from the hold of a departing Swiss-bound plane, had the hallmarks of an Ocean’s Eleven-style operation.
One other person, suspected of being the mastermind, will hear his case in court later.
‘It is a great result,’ said defence lawyer Nathalie Gallant.
It was not a full victory yet as yesterday’s decision can still be appealed.
