TREATS FOR BODY AND SOUL

-

Speaking of water, we all need to conserve our water reserves for the next few weeks. Hose pipe bans are in operation now but in the past few weeks I have seen many people out in their gardens with a hose running, chatting to their neighbours and not focusing on their gardens. Yes, our gardens may not be as green or our cars may not be so clean. There was an advert on RTÉ in the 1976 drought. Almost everyone had a goldfish or something similar in those good old days. It was a video of a fish tank with a lone goldfish where the water level got lower and lower until the poor old fish was flapping around in the few drops left at the bottom. The slogan was ‘Be a tap watcher and not a water waster!’ It worked then and maybe something similar would work today. I am sure there will still be those watering their grass without a care but water isn’t something we can afford to waste. Please be a water watcher.

THE Blue Book board had our summer meeting until September last week. Afterwards, we retired to the new Iveagh Gardens Hotel on Harcourt Street, Dublin 2. The new hotel is right round the corner from Iveagh Gardens and is on the Luas line. The dining room is splendid. A lovely afternoon was had by all — see iveaghgardenshotel.com.
