Blow for cancer family

-

THE Ryanair strike has added ‘extra stress’ to what has already been a tough year for one family who have been dealing with a cancer diagnosis.

Peter Gallagher told RTÉ’s Liveline yesterday he booked flights with the airline last September to take his wife and three children on holiday to Spain.

Less than two months after booking, they received the devastating diagnosis that his wife had breast cancer.

Peter, originally from Athlone but now living in Newry, told the Irish Daily Mail the trip was ‘more than a holiday’.

‘Surgery, chemotherapy, all the horrible things that come with the diagnosis, we had to go through them,’ he said.

‘This was something she [his wife] put as a goal, so that she will make a recovery.

‘The added stress this has put on us now after everything we’ve been coping with is horrendous. To put people under this amount of stress within a week of leaving on a holiday seems completely and utterly unwarranted.’
