RIK MAYALL: LORD OF MISRULE
Today, 10pm – BBC4 I’LL apologise to no one for saying that The Young Ones remains one of the unfunniest and most over-rated sitcoms ever made. That said, the late Rik Mayall, pictured, went on to prove himself a fine actor in Blackadder, The Comic Strip series and, most of all, as ruthless Tory MP Alan B’stard in The New Statesman. With contributions from Lenny Henry, Ben Elton, Ruby Wax, Michael Palin and Jools Holland.
THEWORLD’S END
Today, 10.25pm – Channel 4 AFTER using false pretences to lure four estranged friends for a night out, saddo Gary King (Simon Pegg, pictured) persuades them to join him in finishing the pub crawl they abandoned two decades before. Problems begin early on when they discover their hometown has been taken over by androids.
THE RISE AND FALL OF NOKIA
Tuesday, 9pm – BBC4 IT doesn’t seem all that many years since Nokia was everywhere. Then one day we all looked up from our new smartphones to see the only person still using a Nokia handset was Enda Kenny. This documentary looks at the spectacular decline of the Finnish company, which once had a larger annual budget than its own country’s government.
PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK
Wednesday, 9.05pm – BBC2 IF you’re as old as me, you will recall the eerie Seventies film about a group of Australian schoolgirls who disappear without trace on a day trip in 1900. This new six-part TV adaptation stars Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones, The Tudors) as the girls’ principal.
