Man to face court today over ‘fatal pub stabbing’

A 41-YEAR-OLD is due in court today accused of murdering a man allegedly stabbed in a pub.

Garda sources confirmed a man arrested on Monday is due to appear before Limerick District Court this morning.

Patrick ‘Pa’ O’Connor, 24, was allegedly stabbed in Fitzgerald’s Bar, Thomondgat­e, Limerick, last Saturday. He died at University Hospital Limerick the following day.

Last night, hundreds of mourners held a remembranc­e vigil near Mr O’Connor’s home in Kileely, Limerick.

Family, friends and neighbours released hundreds of balloons into the sky in his memory.

His remains are to repose at Cross’s Funeral Home in Gerald Griffin Street, Limerick, from 5pm to 6.30pm tomorrow.

A Requiem Mass will take place at 9.30am on Friday with burial afterwards in Mount St Oliver Cemetery.

A post-mortem was carried out on Mr O’Connor’s body on Monday. No details were released by gardaí.
