The courage to care
WHEN mosque worker Ali Yassine confronted knife-wielding burglar Stefan Boyle, he somehow calmed him down, made him scrambled eggs and listened to his life story. Yesterday, Boyle, who has pleaded guilty, faced court.
He has a long history of offending and of recidivism in his addictions to alcohol and drugs, so it remains in the lap of the gods whether he can get his life together again. One person who need not worry is Mr Yassine.
In a situation that would terrify most of us, he somehow found the grace that reminds us of the power of humanity.
