If you go down to the Longford woods today...

- BY JIM MURTY

IT’S the fallback position of every parent of every small kid on holiday... throw them in the water. They’ll be in there for hours, leaving you time to read your book, sip your cocktail and top up the tan.

We’re talking Lanzarote, Ibiza, the Algarve, the French Riviera, the Amalfi Coast, Center Parcs, Longford. Longford? Come again?

Yes, Longford is the location for Center Parcs’ push into Ireland and it has tempted all parents with what will be Ireland’s biggest indoor water park, the Subtropical Swimming Paradise.

So where are Center Parcs at with Longford Forest?

Well, this week, it showcased its complex of 466 lodges and 30 apartments, set amongst 400 acres of woodland.

The company is particularly excited about the Exclusive Lodges, each of which has a games room with pool table and games console and a private sauna, as well as a steam room and an outdoor hot tub.

Center Parcs is hoping to attract 2,500 guests to its resort. The resorts are already very popular in the UK where there are five destinations.

And after this summer, now that we’re officially a sunshine destination, staycations make sense.

A big forest, a huge indoor water park, more than 100 indoor and outdoor activities and a range of restaurants and shops where we can be with family and friends, and can all understand what everyone is saying makes perfect sense.

Mail Weekend Travel will keep you updated with what’s going on in the forest. The resort is due to open its doors in summer of next year.
