And the winner is … not you, Lily
TEARS in her eyes and a look of shock on her face, this is Lily Allen the moment she learned someone else had won a coveted music award.
The 33-year-old singer was clearly devastated not to take the 2018 Mercury Prize at a ceremony in London on Thursday night.
If anyone was in any doubt, she later wrote on her Twitter account: ‘Someone call 999, I’ve been robbed.’
The award went to alternative rockers Wolf Alice, who beat other acts including Florence And The Machine and Arctic Monkeys. Ms Allen wrote: ‘I adore Wolf Alice tho, and they are very deserved winners’ – before adding: ‘Next time … ima win that b **** .’
The ceremony came on the same day Ms Allen released her autobiography My Thoughts Exactly which documents her affairs with female escorts and features unflattering depictions of her parents, who she claims used drugs around her when she was a child.
In one section she writes that her father, actor Keith Allen – who she labels as a ‘selfsaboteur’ and a ‘narcissist’ – had a cocaineinduced heart attack at the Glastonbury festival when she was 13.
But appearing on tonight’s Jonathan Ross Show on ITV she says the allegation annoyed him because it was not true. She claims her father told her the illness was down to ‘acute food poisoning’.
