The veteran goalkeeper, who called time on her own internatio­nal career in February last year with 134 caps to her name, was one of the first to acknowledg­e her former teammate’s retirement. ‘You were the best teammate on & off the pitch! Byrne was one of the key figures alongside O’Gorman pushing for better conditions while on internatio­nal duty and her career with Arsenal was certainly littered with success. Byrne won 11 league titles and the UEFA Women’s Champions League during 17 years with the Gunners.
