BBC reporter’s apology for ‘mistress’ slur
A SENIOR BBC reporter was filmed making an offensive comment about the Leicester City chairman’s private life yesterday.
Dan Roan, the BBC News sports editor, said: ‘That was his mistress’ while talking about a female assistant who died in the helicopter crash.
He was standing near the shrine to the victims at the club’s stadium. One fan later wrote online: ‘You were stood five yards away from his memorial. So disrespectful, so thoughtless and hurtful.’ Another wrote: ‘If you had an iota of contrition, you would tender your resignation.’
Roan later posted: ‘Just want to say sorry for some comments in a private, off-air conversation with a colleague. Absolutely no offence intended.’ The BBC called the remark ‘ill-judged’.
