BALLINTUBBER 0-6 TOURLESTRANE 0-5
MAYO talisman Cillian O’Connor scored five points – all frees – as Ballintubber edged past Sligo champions Tourlestrane in a low-scoring encounter at Quigbar. The Mayo champions, who now face Leitrim’s Aughawillan, led 0-3 to 0-1 at the end of the opening period. Match-winner O’Connor contributed two of his side’s first-half scores while his brother Diarmuid kicked Ballintubber’s only point from play and later picked up the man-of-thematch award. Tourlestrane almost went the entire first half without scoring until a stoppage- time point from Cathal Henry, who was the losers’ leading scorer. Henry’s side got to within a point of Ballintubber on three occasions in the second half but their chances of taking a big scalp lessened with Shane Dunne’s red card in the final quarter.
