FOUR-STAR DISPLAY GETS SHOW ON ROAD

- BILLY RUBIN

FOLLOWING the disappointment of their opening night defeat to England last week, Ireland bounced back to get their campaign up and running with a win in Scotland. This was a five-star display with four tries for the visitors. Aoife McDermott got the ball rolling before Scotland cancelled it out with one if their own through Hannah Smith, who showed quick feet to level things up. Ireland maintained the pressure, though, and just before the break they regained the lead courtesy of prop Leah Lyons’ try. Alison Miller followed her over the line soon after to extend the advantage and ensure there was no way back for the Scots. It was only this time last year that they beat Ireland for the first time in the competition, but there was no repeat here and Anna Caplice sealed an easy win with a fourth try. Next up for Ireland is a trip to Parma where it is Italy that lie in wait.
