Mixed bag for Rory as Tiger concerns ease

- By ROBERT GORMAN

RORY McILROY shot a second round of 70 to add to his opening 69 at the WGC Workday Championship in Florida. McIlroy had a fairly bumpy ride in his second round with six birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey. The Northern Irishman is six shots behind Brooks Koepka, who leads the way on 11 under after he shot a second round of 66. Cameron Smith and Billy Horschel are a shot further back. Shane Lowry was set to finish on two under. Meanwhile, Tiger Woods has been transferred to a new hospital in Los Angeles as his recovery following a horrific car accident on Tuesday moves beyond the critical stage.

The 45-year-old almost lost his right leg after suffering compound fractures to his tibia and fibula that caused a dangerous amount of swelling.

He has now been moved from a specialist trauma hospital to one for continuing orthopaedic care and recovery.

Medical experts suggest it is likely to be at least another week before he can travel home to Florida.

Leona Maguire added a level par 72 yesterday to her opening 69 in the $2m Gainbridge LPGA event in Lake Nona, Orlando.

Stephanie Meadow’s 72 wasn’t enough to make the cut.
