Cabinteely eye up top of the pile

- BY PAUL DOWLING

HAVING ended their 21-game wait to win an away game last week at Longford Town, Cabinteely could go top of the table tonight. The Dubliners play host to leaders Cobh Ramblers at Stradbrook looking for a third victory on the spin. “It’s going OK,” said director of football Pat Devlin who has a full squad at his disposal. “The lads have shown the right attitude. We’re going in the right direction.” Ramblers are the only undefeated side left in the lower flight and boss Stephen Henderson hopes to extend that run. He said: “Being top of the table at any stage of the season isn’t an easy thing to do so I’m looking forward to seeing how we respond to the pressure, to see if we can go on a run and stay up there.” The Cork side will travel without Ian Mylod (ankle) and Cian Kingston (hamstring) but Darren Murphy, Dean Swords and Ryan Hogan should return. After back-to-back away fixtures, Waterford host the South-east derby against Wexford this evening. Sander Puri, Kenny Browne (flu) and Tom Smith (knee) are doubtful while the Slaneysiders expect to have Adam Hanlon and John Mckeown available. Longford will attempt to maintain their unbeaten away record when they face UCD at the Belfield Bowl. But the Midlanders have a mounting injury list as Kealin Dillon and Enda Curran have joined Noel Haverty, Rhys Gorman and Don Cowan on the sidelines. The Students are without Simon Power (calf). Shelbourne make the trip to Lissywollen to face Athlone looking for their first win of the campaign. With Jack Tuite back from a ban, James O’brien, Aaron Ashe and Chris Lyons are all available. But with Aidan Collins doubtful, Dylan Kavanagh, and Adam O’connor remain out.
