Cheer on Ivory speedster to take the Acclaim in Portland at Doncaster

-

STAKE ACCLAIM gets the vote to give Dean Ivory another big sprint win by landing the William Hill Portland Handicap (1.50) at Doncaster.

It is six weeks since Hertfordshire handler Ivory saddled Lancelot Du Lac – who tops the weights in today’s contest – to victory in the Stewards’ Cup at Glorious Goodwood. And he has another prime candidate for a valuable prize in Stake Acclaim, down the field behind his stablemate but back in the winner’s enclosure when pouncing late at the Shergar Cup to give Jamie Spencer his 2,000th career success. The five-year-old went up 4lb as a result of that neck verdict and ran a sound race from his new rating when third to Ice Age at Windsor nine days later. The effort was particularly meritorious given that Stake Acclaim spent most of the contest racing alone under the stands’ rail, and Robert Winston’s mount still looks competitive off the same handicap mark. He has won five times at seven HOME OF THE BRAVE furlongs and rates Nap material to collect at the trip for a sixth time in the Group 2 Park Stakes (2.25). Hugo Palmer’s stable stalwart scored at Leicester (Listed) and Newmarket (Group 3) before going under by half a length to Breton Rock in the Group 2 Lennox Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. Home Of The Brave now meets the winner, who also captured this race 12 months ago, on 3lb better terms, however, and the revised weights give Godolphin’s fiveyear-old and James Doyle (left) a strong chance of gaining his revenge. Doyle also holds the aces on MYTHICAL Godolphin’s MAGIC in the Group 2 Champagne Stakes (3.00). The Charlie Appleby trainee made no mistake when sent off the 11-8 market leader for his debut at Ascot in July, coming home a cosy twoand-a-half-length victor. Mythical Magic followed up in Listed grade at Deauville 34 days ago and has plenty more to offer. DURETTO, At Chester, off games since running a close third in the Group 3 Ormonde Stakes on the Roodee back in May, should bring his class to bear in the Listed 32Red. com Stand Cup (2.40). Stall one is a big help to frontrunner PORCHY PARTY in the 32Red Casino Nursery (2.05), while Wednesday’s wide-margin Carlisle KING’S PAVILION winner is well treated under a 6lb penalty in the 32Red.com Handicap (3.15).
