Creep’s vile acts an ‘open secret’ says star Fionnula
IRISH actress Fionnula Flanagan has told of her experiences with “creep” producer Harvey Weinstein. He has been branded by multiple actresses as a sex pest who routinely harassed women and abused them in seedy “casting couch” scenarios. And 75-year-old Flanagan, who appeared in hit TV show Lost, said it was an “open secret” how the American treated women. She said: “He was executive producer on a picture I did called The Others. His company also distributed Transamerica. “He was around a lot of the others [movies I did], at the parties etc.
“By the time I worked in The Others and Trans America I was no longer a 20-year-old and it seems to be it was with actresses when they were young he behaved so appallingly. “He was sort of repulsive in his behaviour towards women and that was well known. It was an open secret. “He never made any advances toward me. “He was, to put a fine point on it, a creep. That was known. “He was notorious for breaking deals, which indeed he did with me. Flanagan said he was more than likely protected by his star power. She told Liveline on RTE Radio 1: “He was a powerful person who could make or break a career. “He was just one producer but he was a powerful producer.” And now she thinks more people will come out against big names in the industry who have abused their position of power. Flanagan said: “It is so courageous of these women to come forward. It’s not easy to do because he was so powerful. “My guess is that people are going to spill the beans on other powerful guys. There’ll will be a lot of quaking in boots.”
