House price rise sec­ond high­est in EU

IRE­LAND’S house prices are the sec­ond fastest­grow­ing in the EU. The big­gest rise dur­ing the sec­ond quar­ter of 2017 were recorded in the Czech Repub­lic, Ire­land and Lithua­nia. MEP Sean Kelly said there was a need for more re­gional in­vest­ment to ease the pres­sure on Dublin. He also wel­comed the al­lo­ca­tion of €1.9bil­lion for hous­ing in the Bud­get. Mr Kelly said: “Th­ese fig­ures are not sur­pris­ing, but they do of­fer an­other re­minder that work needs to be done to tackle this on­go­ing is­sue. “It is vi­tal that we in­crease in­vest­ment in cities such as Lim­er­ick, Cork, Water­ford, and Kilkenny.”
