Irish Daily Mirror - - NEWS - BY EMILY PENNINK

A JURY failed to reach a verdict in the trial of a former garda accused of killing a drunk man by pushing him out of a lift. Oliver Hurley, 64, allegedly shoved Manolito Chando, 56, during a row at a Salvation Army hostel in London. The incident at 8pm on March 24 last year was caught on CCTV. Following Mr Chando’s death in hospital, Hurley, from Co Wicklow, was charged with manslaughter. He denied pushing Mr Chando hard and claimed he acted in self-defence. The prosecution is considering whether to apply for a retrial. Hurley was granted conditional bail until the case returns to the Old Bailey on October 23.
