Prisoner given €300 loan by jail bosses so she could buy a dog
A FEMALE prisoner was given a €300 loan by jail bosses to buy a dog – from behind bars.
The Irish Prison Service has forked out €500,000 in interestfree loans over the past three years to lags.
It’s understood the dog was bought by the prisoner as a gift and wasn’t brought into the Dochas Centre in Dublin.
An Irish Prison Service spokesman said: “Loans are given to inmates for numerous reasons, for example confirmations, communions, family birthdays, for issue to family members, to purchase radios, Playstations, toiletries, etc.”
