World chess funds frozen

THE World Chess Federation’s Swiss bank accounts have been closed over alleged transactions on behalf of Syria.

The game’s leader Kirsan Ilyumzhinov was added to a US Treasury Department sanctions list in 2015.

He denies wrongdoing and has stepped aside.
