Going up... Mum

Not enough attention has been drawn to this subtle, bittersweet, incredibly funny comedy, which is on BBC2 at 10pm on Tuesdays. The second series has just started, and is every bit as good as the first. If you’ve never seen it, catch up on, er Catch Up, and consider yourself lucky to have so much to binge on.

Macaulay Talkin’

Macaulay Culkin used to be cute, then he was a bit weird and looked like he needed a bath, and now he’s come through the other side, all the way back to relevant. He’s started bunnyears.com, which satirises celebrity lifestyle websites, and is honestly genuinely funny. At this rate, Bunny Ears may one day be the first thing we think of when we hear his name, instead of him slapping his face with his hands age 10 (I mean, probably not, but there’s always a chance).

Going down... Frozen out?

Frozen was refreshing because a handsome prince didn’t rescue anyone, and for a second it looked like the sequel might be even better. Rumour had it that in Frozen 2, Elsa might have a girlfriend. Unfortunately when the co-director of was asked about it, she waffled, “Where Elsa is and what Elsa’s doing in her life, she’s telling me every day. We’ll see where we go.” That’s Hollywood for no. Shame.

Pineapple success

To clarify: The World Pasty Championships are a real event, which people take seriously. OK? Good. So there’s been outrage this year because a top prize was won by a pasty containing chicken, sweet potato, courgette, sweetcorn, red pepper... and pineapple. The inventor of the Hawaiian pizza probably faced just as tough criticism though, so its creator can take comfort from the knowledge that people will still be arguing about whether it’s acceptable or not for basically ever.
