John eyes a speedy Getaway
GETAWAY KATIE MAI must be strongly-fancied to land tomorrow’s finale in Naas.
John Queally’s charge, a winning pointer, won her bumper at Ballinrobe in August beating Motown
Girl and Pocket Dial in what looked an ordinary affair.
Back after a break, she ran a cracker in a Grade 2 mares event at the Dublin Racing Festival at Leopardstown, finishing a length and a half second to the Willie Mullins-trained Relegate, with two of tomorrow’s rivals behind.
The daughter of Getaway stayed on dourly up the straight and, entitled to improve from that run, can confirm the form with the Mullins runner Colreevy, which started odds-on favourite for the Leopardstown race.
Owned by the Flynn family, Colreevy won on her racecourse debut at Fairyhouse in mid-december, when many observers were not impressed by her tail-swishing.
Probably not suited by a muddling pace at Leopardstown last time, she has two and a half lengths to find with the selection, Getaway Katie Mai.
And plenty of improvement, but probably not enough, can be expected from Gordon Elliott’s Tintangle, 15 lengths off the dominant trio, including Getaway Katie Mai and Colreevy on her debut at Leopardstown.
Mary B made a pleasing start to her career when winning for Charles Byrnes at Gowran Park on Red
Mills Day and, as a four-year-old, receives weight from her rivals, plus Richie Degan’s claim. So she too comes into the equation.
