RTE in shock after jailing of paedophile ex-producer
RTE’S crime correspondent has spoken of the shock among his workmates after a former colleague was jailed for child sex offences.
Ex-sports producer Kieran Creaven was sentenced to 18 months for child sex abuse offences in Leeds last week.
The 55-year-old was caught in November last year by vigilante group Predator Exposure.
They filmed him and put the footage on Facebook before handing him over to police.
Creaven travelled to Leeds believing he was meeting a 13-year-old girl who he had been chatting to online for four months, after the group created a fake Facebook profile.
Crime correspondent Paul Reynolds said: “For many of those who knew Creaven, there are feelings of anger and betrayal.
“For those whose homes he had been in and whose children he had met and spoken to, those feelings are 10 times worse.
“For those parents there is also the debilitating fear of what might have been.”
Mr Reynolds also revealed gardai are now investigating if Creaven committed any offences in Ireland and if so whether they can identify any of his victims.
