Coffee ‘offers protection from cancer’
DRINKING coffee could protect people from cancer, according to a study that found six cups a day slashed the risk of premature death.
But Cancer Research UK said eating lots of fruit and veg, doing more exercise and quitting smoking will have a greater effect than sipping cappuccinos.
The research, published in journal JAMA Internal Medicine, found those who drank six or seven cups a day were 16 per cent less likely to die from any disease over a decade than those who never touched coffee.
Cancer Research UK’S Fiona Osgun said: “This study found drinking coffee doesn’t increase the risk of cancer – and may even help lower the risk of some cancers.”
