ALISON MAKES MUG OF CHAMPION

GARBINE MUGURUZA joined the list of big-name casualties at this year’s Wimbledon when she was stunned by Alison van Uytvanck.

The former French Open quarter-finalist produced arguably the performanc­e of her life to dump out defending women’s champion and out-ofsorts Spaniard Muguruza, 24.

Era that only two of the top eight seeds have made it through to the third round. Third seed Muguruza recovered from 4-2 down against the world No.47 to take the first set 7-5.

But Van Uytvanck (inset) held her nerve to take the second and then dazzled with a string of winners to claim a sensationa­l 5-7 6-2 6-1 win.

Van Uytvanck said: “If I didn’t attack her I wouldn’t have had a chance. I might have looked nerveless but inside I was dying, especially serving for the match.”
