1990: Martina Navratilova beat
Zina Garrison in 57 minutes to win a record ninth Wimbledon women’s singles title.
1990: Peter Shilton ended his international career by playing a record 125th and last time for England in the World Cup third-place play-off
match against Italy in Bari.
1998: Former England captain David Platt announced his retirement as a player to concentrate on a new career in management.
2007: Venus Williams won her fourth Wimbledon singles title with a 6-4 6-1 victory over surprise finalist Marion Bartoli. 2010: Spain beat Germany 1-0 to reach the World Cup final. They went on to defeat Holland 1-0 after extra-time to win the title.
