17,000 wait over year for health scan

MORE than 17,000 Irish people are left waiting over a year for scans, it has been revealed.

There are 135,000 on waiting lists across the country and 17,648 are waiting to have a CT, MRI or ultrasound.

Fianna Fail’s Stephen Donnelly said: “This is the first time in many years we have been able to get informatio­n about diagnostic scans.

“The data itself is a cause for significan­t concern.

“It’s most frustratin­g that these problems could and should be sorted but are let continue due to a sheer lack of political will.”
