- BY EDEL HUGHES

THE Pope’s Phoenix Park Mass is now booked out – with all 500,000 tickets gone.

The World Meeting Of Families 2018 revealed yesterday there are no passes available for the penultimate event of the pontiff ’s trip to Ireland on August 26.

People keen to get a glimpse of Pope Francis snapped up 285,000 tickets within the first 24 hours of release on June 25.

And within 48 hours, 400,000 tickets were gone. The demand continued to be strong in the past two weeks, with the final tickets being booked up yesterday.

More than 15,000 of those attending are overseas visitors, while 46% have listed a Dublin address. People from 116 countries are set to be at the Mass.

WMOF 2018’s secretary general Fr Timothy Bartlett said: “While I was cautious at the beginning, and while I am a little surprised every part of the event is booked out six weeks in advance, I am not surprised at all by the incredibly high levels of interest.

“Family is important to all of us. People like what Pope Francis is saying about family and the Church.”

He urged people to plan in advance for their journey to the historic event and come in groups if they can.
