Incredible family box office hit predicted

- BY NICK BRAMHILL

The Incredibles SUPERHERO sequel Incredibles 2 has been tipped to be this year’s smash-hit at the Irish box office.

The hugely-anticipated Pixar film has already broken records in the US, where it enjoyed the biggest ever animated opening weekend, pulling in €155million.

And just last weekend it broke another record when it became the first animated film to surpass €425million at the US box office. Now industry experts have predicted similar when the family-friendly follow-up to 2004’s Incredibles is released in Irish cinemas on Friday.

Wide Eye Media boss Eoin Wrixon said: “We haven’t had an animated film take the No1 spot since Despicable Me 2 in 2013. Finding Dory, which was the No 2 film here in 2016, previously held the record for biggest animated opening of alltime.

“Incredibles 2 has already rocketed past Finding Dory in the US and its super powers are expected to mesmerise Irish audiences more than any other animated film to date.”

However, industry observers predict a tight race to the top of charts – with another sequel, Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, likely to be the biggest contender.

The star-studded followup reunites Meryl Streep and Colin Firth and opens on July 20.
