Fire crew in­jured at mill blaze

TWO fire­fight­ers were in­jured in an ex­plo­sion while bat­tling a large blaze at a com­mer­cial prop­erty yes­ter­day morn­ing.

The fire broke out at the Pal­fab sawmill at around 4.30am in Lis­sarda, near Mac­room, west of Cork city.

It’s un­der­stood the fire­fight­ers were not se­ri­ously hurt but suf­fered “shock­wave in­juries” and ring­ing in their ears af­ter the blast.

Both were taken to Cork Univer­sity Hos­pi­tal as a pre­cau­tion­ary mea­sure.

The sawmill was gut­ted by the blaze and a team has been sent to as­sess the dam­age.
