U-boat wreck is discovered
Sunken U-87 sub SCIENTISTS have found the wreck of a German submarine sunk during the First World War.
The U-87 downed 23 Allied ships in less than a year and was finally taken out by a British sloop on Christmas Day 1917.
Its precise location was not known until now but images show the U-boat in remarkable condition on the seabed off Bardsey Island, North Wales.
It was found as part of a Bangor University survey, using new techniques to map 168 shipwrecks around the Welsh coast.
