All I want is a brew..

- BY JENNY DESBOROUGH

EVERYONE was on Edge in Co Antrim over the weekend – but they were only star-gazing.

That’s because the U2 guitar hero stopped by in Carnlough for a cuppa.

And while he was in the Londonderry Arms, the 57-year-old took time to sign autographs for stunned fans.

In Belfast for two concerts, there was no sign of his bandmates, but The Edge seemed to have found what he was looking for. CORONATION Street’s Charlie Lawson broke down in tears on live TV as he discussed the terrifying moment he was pulled off stage after suffering a mini-stroke.

The Northern Irish actor, made famous in the role of Jim Mcdonald, said he suddenly could not hear anything and was brought off stage during a performance in the lead role of Rebus: Long Shadows.

He thought his acting colleague was saying completely different lines in a moment of confusion before being escorted away.

As the 59-year-old tried to describe what happened on BBC Breakfast, he started to cry and hosts Louise Minchin and Steph Mcgovern paused the interview momentarily so he could gather himself.

Charlie, from Co Fermanagh, added: “Suddenly I couldn’t hear anything. The play is me anyway, so the next thing Big John [Stahl, playing Big Ger] put his arm around me and took me off stage.

“And 20 minutes later, I knew something awful had happened. The producer was there... people who mattered, who cared about the piece were there.

“I went home, passed out, went to sleep, had all the scans and revealed I’d had a stroke.”

He started to cry at this moment, saying he rarely speaks about what happened to him publicly, before revealing he was back on days later.

Charlie added: “I was aware for about two or three seconds that something was about to happen.

“And then really, I could hardly see Cathy, and I thought John was messing me about – he was saying lines to a different play. I remember feeling annoyed.

“I moved to where I should have been and there was a piece of me that knew something was wrong and Big John just said, ‘Come on, big lad, off you go’.”

After a full recovery Charlie is back on stage and recently played the Manchester Opera House. Actor on TV
