Mag editor in ‘kill vegans’ furore quits

- BY RUKI SAYID

William Sitwell THE food magazine editor who joked vegans should be killed has quit his job.

William Sitwell, a critic on BBC’S Masterchef, left Waitrose Food Magazine after 20 years yesterday.

It follows an email rant to vegan journalist Selene Nelson, who suggested publishing more meat-free and dairy-free articles.

Mr Sitwell told her: “How about a series on killing vegans, one by one?”

He apologised and Waitrose confirmed he had quit “with immediate effect”.

Meanwhile, we are shunning meat during the week but indulging at weekends, a Waitrose study claims on World Vegan Day today.

More than a third have cut out or reduced their meat eating, with one in eight vegan or vegetarian, and a fifth “flexitarian”.
