Shower bugs a lung threat
BUGS lurking in shower heads are triggering lung infections, a study warns.
Bacteria survive the heat and the chlorine in disinfected water, festering inside before hot flowing water releases them.
When breathed in, they can cause mycobacterial lung infections – which are becoming more common.
Matthew Gebert of the University of Colorado said: “In showering, we are exposed to elevated concentrations of shower head-associated bacteria.”
