TV Brennans urged to pay sacked hotel boss €90k
Francis Brennan THE Labour Court has urged TV stars the Brennan brothers’ plush Park Hotel to pay €90,000 to a general manager sacked in April.
But it is likely the sacked man will not receive anything as the recommendation is not binding.
The unnamed worker took up his post in January at the Kenmare, Co Kerry, site but was fired by John Brennan during his probationary period.
He brought an unfair dismissal claim to the Labour Court and it found he was denied natural justice and procedures adopted in the termination were seriously flawed.
As a result, the court has recommended the hotel pay the claimant €90,000 in full and final settlement of his claim.
Yesterday, Mr Brennan, star of RTE’S At Your Service, said: “We note the findings of the Labour Court recommendation.
“However, they are not binding and employment was terminated within the probationary period.”
Mr Brennan said he and his brother Francis “have never had an unfair dismissal case taken against us before this”.
He revealed 20 of the 70 staff have been with the hotel for 20 years and 15 for 10 years, adding: “Our employees are the backbone of the Park Hotel.”
