QUEEN OF THE TURF

Enable could be back for more

- BY DAVID YATES

ENABLE “remains a great force” and can rescale the prodigious heights of her three-year-old season, trainer John Gosden claimed in the wake of her great Breeders’ Cup Turf triumph yesterday.

No final ruling has been made over whether the Khalid Abdullah-owned filly, who followed her hard-fought Prix de l’arc de Triomphe success with a historymaking triumph under

Frankie Dettori at Churchill

Downs on Saturday, will stay in training next year.

But Gosden (right), while acknowledging Enable has not reproduced her best form at four in 2018 – a year that saw her return to the track delayed until September – believes there could be more to come from the daughter of Nathaniel.

Citing Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Classic success of five-year-old Accelerate, Gosden said: “Whatever decision is made, you only have to look at the Classic to see how horses can reach their peak at five. Anyway, Mr Dettori has three children to put through university so he will need the money.”

“She’s had an incident-filled year and a difficult preparation for her races, but she remains a great force.

“She hasn’t been at her absolute best this year, but she has still managed to win her races,” added Gosden, who will discuss Enable’s future with Abdullah and the owner’s racing manager Lord Teddy Grimthorpe over the coming days.

“She could come right back to her best three-year-old form, but she hasn’t done too shabbily!”

There was no glory for the Europeans in the Classic, which saw Accelerate give trainer John Sadler a Breeders’ Cup triumph at the 45th attempt.

He had earlier seen his Catapult get headed close home by the Dettoriridden, Sir Michael Stoute-trained Expert Eye in the Mile.
